The Customer


Our client offers a unique platform which provides insights into the performance, availabiltiy, health and utilisation of the storage infrastructure. The end customer is a leading technology provider for the travel and tourism industry.

 

The Requirement


The end customer needed a solution that would help identify ways to improve overall performance and to better utilise existing infrastructure as well as allow proactive incident avoidance and assist in reactive trouble resolution. The solution also needed to provide a more detailed view of the infrastructure during key transformation projects that were to occur.

 

The Solution


The Infrastructure Performance Analytics (IPA) platform provides key metrics for system and storage activities gathered from server and storage infrastructure together with detailed i/o traffic at a packet level. Collating this information and detailed analysis requires an intimate understanding of the data collection and reporting tools as well as an in-depth understanding of the infrastructure stack. To ensure the customer started to see a return on their investment from the early stages, a managed service was provided as part of the solution. With our reputation and experience this made us the natural choice.

 

The Delivery


On commencing the project our consultants were engaged to install and configure the client's instrumentation hardware. Once the hardware installation was completed we led the software configuration and definition phases in order to catalogue the customer environment within the hierarchical entity-based structure. Our consultants developed a new Health, Utilization and Performance (HUP) Report template that was-then used by the client for other customer engagements. We initiated conversations with the customer's lines of business stakeholders then maintained those relationships by producing and presenting bespoke monthly reports, promoting adoption of the client's toolset for monitoring and troubleshooting through active engagement and product demonstrations. Throughout the engagement our team provided the following functions:

  • Maintenance of the client's hardware and software platform through operating system and firmware updates

  • Management of the entity definitions to ensure new infrastructure is defined and aligned to the correct line of business or infrastructure team

  • On-demand performance troubleshooting and root cause analysis

  • SAN Health alert definition and monitoring

  • SAN Performance alert definition and integration with System Management platform

  • Create HUP report on a monthly basis and deliver presentation to the Storage Team and members of senior management.

  • Create monthly report for a number of lines of business and deliver presentations to key stakeholders
